Our hotel in Prague was absolutely beautiful. The Art Deco Imperial
Hotel was built in 1914, and combines the architectural styles of Art Deco,
cubism and Art Nouveau. The hotel interior is full of gorgeous tile
work, such as this bas-relief in the foyer that reflects Egyptian
motifs. The building is listed as a Czech National Monument.

The hallways and rooms had detail photos of the tile work; Q figured out that our room had a photo of the fabric draping from this bas-relief.

The restaurant in our hotel not only had good food, but also stunning Art Nouveau tile work over the walls and ceiling and carved wood paneling. We had a great time analyzing the design of the tile work every morning at breakfast, although the elegance of the space made us feel somewhat under-dressed. We made a point of dressing up for a special dinner in the restaurant one night.

Even the columns were fully tiled! Wow.
In fact, the basement *gym* in the hotel was covered with tile work. Every corner of the hotel was beautifully decorated.

Q caught me finishing a cup of tea as he took pictures of the restaurant.

In some hotels, the lobby might be spectacular, but the hotel rooms
themselves are often basic in design. Not here -- the room was full of
lovely furniture and accessories. Does this mirror reflect (pun
intended) a cubist influence?

The bathroom was tiled in marble. Real marble. It was done in a simple but elegant design, with different colors and sizes of tile.

The spiral motif is similar to the hotel logo, which was also in the carpet pattern. I love the little details that bring a design together.

The colored glass windows made walking down the stairs a visual treat every morning.

Prague is one of those cities where one finds architectural beauty everywhere one looks. I love the painting design around the windows of this building.
Our hotel was the perfect launching spot to explore Prague, particularly since we were within easy walking distance of Old Town and New Town. So let's put on our walking shoes and see the city!
Next up: Old Town
